Gordon C. Sage
From a very early age Gordon was overwhelmed by the beauty of nature and
consumed with artistic ambition. He has spent his life exploring the potential
of oil paint with all its richness and variety of texture.
Gordon Sage is a versatile and prolific artist but the greater part of his output consists of Native American themes; encompassing Native myths, customs and dress. The rest of his work is comprised of landscapes, wildlife, portraits, allegory and literary themes.
The most distinctive features of Sages style are the use of light and shade to create an effect of three dimensions. Most of his work created in the last twenty years has been painted with a Palette knife.
Gordon is an artist not a craftsman, he paints with the faction of the mind - his feelings, using light, introducing a great range of small color touches. He feels this refines the rendering of the effects of nature and also serves to accentuate the internal color relationships on the picture surface. This gives the work a structure of contrast. He carefully plans the composition with the hues and textures. |
